No Police Cutbacks at Ramsgate Port of Shame

Recently Kent Police refused to provide officers to man the steets for Paddock Wood’s remembrance parade. Apparantly this was a bid to save money. It took intervention from Home Secretary Theresa May for this parade to be able to go ahead.  (Story from This is Kent)

So what are Kent police saving money for? Nothing to do with cutbacks I would suggest but everything to do with quelling a couple of dozen people protesting the vile trade of live animal exports through the port of Ramsgate

Funkdooby was there and , as you can see, he recorded the event with his camera. Just look at how many policemen where there – it took 8 police officers to stop just two people from leaving the beach area and then to disallow them to walk along the public highway.

Figures since have cited 60 police officers for just 24 protesters. (Protesters FB page)

Why is so much being spent on policing the protesters and escorting the live export lorries through the port. Why were so many police present at this protest? This is an appalling waste of public money, money being used to protect European businessmen rather than policing the streets of Kent. Criminals elsewhere in Kent must have a field day every time they know there’s a shipment due – they know most of the police will be in one small corner of the county preventing people their right to protest.

Live Exports- a Shameful Trade

Isn’t it about time Live Exports were Banned? After horrific cruelty was found by the RSPCA Ramsgate suspended Live Exports. This was recently overturned in the high courts after a Dutch farmer challenged the decision.  Exports began again soon after the High Court overturned the decision of Thanet council.
So in this time of Austerity money was found for  police to escort the convoy of lorries carrying live animals, animals that were due to be slaughtered  without stunning for the Festival of Eid.  There were also more than 60 policemen at the e port to control a handful of demonstrators.  Pictures here.

Oh and in order to avoid publicity the police tried to prevent Valerie Cameron from taking photos. Luckily another photographer was on hand to record the incident
